Baharuddin Jusuf Habibie or BJ Habibie, President of the Republic of Indonesia is the third. He replaced Soeharto who resigned from the presidential office on 21 May 1998. Occupation was replaced by Abdurrahman Wahid (Gus Dur), which was selected on 20 October 1999 by vote of the MPR in 1999 elections.

Habibie was born in Pare-Pare, South Sulawesi and study in the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) period 1955-1965. He studied aviation engineering at the RWTH Aachen, Germany. He obtained a degree diploma in 1960 and doctorate in 1965. Habibie, then working in the Messerschmitt Bölkow Blohm in Hamburg, Germany.

Prior to his President, BJ Habibie, is Vice President (March 1998 - 21 May 1998) in VII of the Cabinet under the leadership of President Soeharto and State Minister of Research and Technology 1978-1998 period. During his ministers he was appointed head of general ICMI (Ikatan Indonesian Muslim scholars).
